Restoratives Yoga

Restoratives Yoga Fridays, 17:30 Is your power source working?  Everyone needs to recharge their batteries, but sometimes we forget to do it, or we even forget we have a power source that can help us. Stress discharges the energy in the body, but relaxation re-charges the energies.   And in the process of this special type of relaxation yoga, we stabilize that connection to our power source – that universal energy that flows through us and sustains our creative and re-generative powers for mind and body. This is a special type of yoga that opens and stretches the body through positioning with complete support for muscles, joints and organs to allow complete relaxation for extended periods.  The poses are designed to sequentially give specific attention to areas of the body, allowing for deep and sustaining breaths.   This brings the mind and the body into coherence with the heart, and in this class, we also elevate our state mind with intentional focus on an uplifting theme, use of mantras and expansion of your awareness beyond the physical limitations of the body.  This class is suitable for beginners or advanced students.  [75-90 min] Register...

Serenity Yin Yoga

Serenity Yin Yoga Tuesdays, 19:30 The power of Yin is in that state of “being” in a quiet, reflective mind where we gather our energy and will to become intuitively creative healers for ourselves and others.  Through longer and opening poses, concentrated breath-focus, we explore our inner limits, create space for new growth and nourish the emotional energy centers that prepare us for living a joy-filled and productive life: the Yang state of mind – “doing, creating, experiencing”. This is a complementary form of yoga to the normal movement and muscle stretching.  Yin is about creating opening within the joints and the outer covering of the muscles (fascia) by using yoga positions that require concentration and close attention to the breath in order to achieve a state of stillness within body and mind while we hold the poses for longer periods.  This class offers a quiet and reflective practice that stimulates health in joints and organs, and with an uplifting theme for the evening, the mind can reach a high state of clarity, as emotional tendencies fade into the background.  The class is suitable for beginners or advanced students.  [75-90 min] Register...

YOUniverse Yoga

YOUniverse Yoga,  Thursdays, 17:30   You and the universe are one – remember it and experience it.  This class opens your physical and emotional body with creative asanas, and ways to go partially or fully into the poses – learning as you practice.  Combining the benefits of Yin and Yang asanas, with use of the breath and intention,  we move toward that state of universal flow and acceptance of your inner peace as a reflection of the beauty and energy of everything that flows into your life.  Stillness, patience, determination and joy in your life become reflections of the way you perceive the world.  Inner and outer space begin to merge by staying present in the now, and can bring some new perspectives for you. As Hildegard von Bingen wrote: “Inside, you have heaven and earth and all of creation.  You are a world – everything is hidden in you.” My goal is to bring you into your heart through breath-work, deep relaxation and intention, and then to create a state of coherence between mind and heart.  A state where the heart is receiving and sending intuitive knowledge that is accessed through the inner-self.  This is one of the cornerstones of spiritual knowledge and practice throughout the world today.   And when you tap into your coherence between mind and heart, you open the door to an unlimited universe that is in you.  Suitable for all ages and levels.  [75...

Yoga On and Off the Matt

Yoga On and Off the Matt Practicing “Inner Aboveness”  Our consciousness has many levels, ranging from simply being responsive to our environment, to being fully and intuitively aware of things beyond our five senses. As Max Velmans and Susan Schneider wrote in The Blackwell Companion to Consciousness: “Anything that we are aware of at a given moment forms part of our consciousness, making conscious experience at once the most familiar and most mysterious aspect of our lives.” Occasionally when I awake, I am surely at the lower end of the consciousness spectrum, mechanically dragging myself through the motions of breakfast and shower. On other days I find myself fully alert and in harmony with my senses and the ethereal world of spiritual awareness.  Perhaps this is also true for you? Janet Center, a dear friend of mine, recently told me that she is practicing “Inner Aboveness”.  I really loved this phrase, and she explained that in this practice she seeks to remind herself throughout the day that she is responsible for her state of mind and choosing to perceive the world, to live above the influence of the events of the day. I immediately recognized that I too have these very lucid states of mind wherein I am the observer of myself going through the motions of interacting with every person and every object that I encounter.  And it’s a beautiful state of mind to be in – attentive, joyous and peaceful – with experiences passing through me but not making a lot of waves. Why is this important?  It’s not just a sense of blissfulness.  I think it...
